Basic Introduction to Norwegian Construction Contracts

This course provides a practical and structured introduction to the most important standard contracts used in the Norwegian construction and civil engineering industry. It is designed to give participants a clear understanding of how Norwegian construction contracts are structured, applied and administered in practice.

Participants will be introduced to key Norwegian Standards, including NS 8405, NS 8406, NS 8407, NS 8415, NS 8416 and NS 8417. The course explains when and how these different contract standards are used and highlights the key differences between them.

A central focus of the course is the allocation of risk, obligations and responsibilities between the parties. Participants will gain a better understanding of what the contracts require from contractors, clients and consultants, and where potential contractual and commercial risks may arise during a project.

The course also covers important practical issues related to changes, variations, notifications and contractual deadlines. Participants will learn why it is important to follow contractual procedures and what consequences may arise when notifications are not submitted correctly or deadlines are missed.

Through practical examples and real-life situations, the course demonstrates common challenges that arise in construction projects and provides guidance on how these situations can be handled and, where possible, avoided.

Course Format

The course can be delivered as an in-house training course and is conducted in English.

Kristofer startet som entreprenør i 1995 og har erfaring både som byggherre, leder i entreprenør- og eiendomsselskaper samt prosjektdirektør i AF Gruppen. I dag jobber han som konsulent innen byggeledelse og miljøprosjektering, og utvikler app- og styringssystemer for bygg- og anleggsbransjen, med AF-Gruppen som største kunde.
